Artists: Abbot Bonhomme
Abbot Bonhomme was born by the sea - in Baie des Moustiques in northwest Haiti - in 1963. In his childhood he spent a great deal of time fishing and farming with his father, and consequently lived in intense communion with nature.
At the age of 12, he developed a passionate interest in painting. He started to paint marine life and portraits, developing his personal technique by researching calligraphy and natural subjects. For example, Bonhomme paints birds in an environment of luxuriant vegetation.
Bonhomme's professional career as a painter started in 1990 , and since then his art has been exhibited around the world, especially in Europe, Asia, and the United States. But it is in Paris and in Tokyo (Gallery Bunkamura) that Abott Bonhomme has received his biggest success.
(Note - The above bio has been loosely translated from the Japanese, as Bonhomme - for reasons we do not understand - has always been most appreciated by eastern collectors, rather than those in the US or Europe).
