Artists: Wagler Vital
Wagler Vital was born in Haiti circa 1950. He is heavily influenced in his art by vodou themes. He was born near to, and lives in, Port-au-Prince.
Originally a mason by trade, Wagler Vital was unable to deny his attraction for painting, or for its expression of voudou. Influenced by the houngan and famous painter Andre Pierre, among others, his own, original and warm naive style is reflected in his paintings and "voodoo flags". Vital is one of very few artists (along perhaps with Prosper Pierre-Louis and a few others) who successfuly moved from the sacred art of vodou drapeus into the realistic depiction of the "voodoo" ceremony in the form of painting.
