Artists: Josephat Tissaint
Josephat Tissaint was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in the late 1960s. He worked with the famous painter Prefete Duffaut for several years, and at that time painted in a similar style (imaginary cities and landscapes). He then turned to jungle scenes, and finally developed his own unique style. The stylized "Madonnas" (or interpretations of Erzulie) you see below are similar to, and no doubt inspired by, the chromolithograph images which were often used in antique voodoo flags depicting the loa Erzulie.
