Haitian Institute of DC:
Art & Soul of Haitian Cooking
|
Artist's comments |
Just as our gallery is more than just an art gallery, this is more than just a cookbook; it is a 264-page, hardbound reflection of the flavor and spirit of a people. A partner in The Electric Gallery, Tania Beckham, is one of the four authors. In addition to hundreds of authentic recipes, it includes a cornucopia of Haitian proverbs, and is richly illustrated with Haitian art from our gallery. Our cookbook was first place winner in the Morris Cookbook Awards for 2002 - its first edition - and is now in its third printing.
The book is published by the Haitian Institute of Washington, D.C. - a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and understanding and appreciation of Haitian culture and society. Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook are used for its charitable activities in both the U.S. and in Haiti. |
